MyPetDex ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: Name, email address, and password when you register.

Pet Information: Pet names, species, breeds, dates of birth, health records, vaccination history, weight logs, and photos you choose to upload.

Usage Data: App interactions, feature usage, and session data collected to improve the service.

Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and IP address for security and analytics purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to: (a) provide and operate the MyPetDex platform; (b) send health reminders, vaccination alerts, and notifications you request; (c) personalize your experience with AI-powered recommendations; (d) process subscription payments; (e) respond to support requests; and (f) improve our services through aggregated analytics.

3. AI Assistant & Third-Party Services

MyPetDex uses the Anthropic Claude API to power the PetDex AI Assistant. When you interact with the AI Assistant, your messages and relevant pet context are transmitted to Anthropic's API for processing. We do not store your AI conversations beyond your active session. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy. We also use Firebase (Google) for database and authentication, and Stripe for payment processing.

Important: The Pet Recipe feature does not send your data to AI for recipe generation. Recipes are pre-formulated templates stored in our database and scaled mathematically to your pet's calorie target. Claude AI is only used to present and explain the selected recipe — not to create it.

4. Nutrition & Recipe Data Sources

Pet nutrition data used in the app is derived from AAFCO 2023 nutrient profiles, USDA FoodData Central (public domain), and WSAVA Global Nutrition Guidelines — all publicly published standards. Calorie targets use the WSAVA RER formula (70 × weight in kg^0.75) with life-stage multipliers. Recipe templates are pre-formulated and stored in our database — they are not generated by AI. USDA As-Fed ingredient values are converted to Dry Matter basis to align with AAFCO 2023 nutrient targets. This data provides informational estimates only and does not constitute veterinary advice. Always consult a licensed veterinarian before making significant dietary changes for your pet.

4a. Toxicity Safeguards

MyPetDex maintains a hard-coded toxicity blocklist based on ASPCA and AVMA guidelines. Ingredients known to be toxic to dogs or cats — including grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, chocolate, xylitol, macadamia nuts, avocado, alcohol, and caffeine — are permanently excluded from all recipe suggestions and cannot be selected by users.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only: (a) with service providers (Firebase, Stripe, Anthropic) necessary to operate the platform; (b) when required by law; or (c) with your explicit consent. We will never share your data with advertisers.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion at any time. Some data may be retained for up to 90 days in backups after deletion.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at help@mypetdex.app.

8. Children's Privacy

MyPetDex is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Security

We use industry-standard encryption (TLS in transit, AES-256 at rest) and Firebase security rules to protect your data. We encourage you to use a strong, unique password.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use after notice constitutes acceptance.

Welcome to MyPetDex. By accessing or using our platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

1. Eligibility & Account

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By creating an account, you represent that all information you provide is accurate. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at help@mypetdex.app if you suspect unauthorized access.

2. Service Description

MyPetDex provides a digital pet management platform including health record tracking, vaccination reminders, AI-powered pet assistance, calorie calculators, local service discovery, and verified pet recipe templates. The service is intended for personal, non-commercial use.

Pet recipes are sourced from a pre-formulated database built on AAFCO 2023 Nutrient Profiles, USDA FoodData Central ingredient data, and WSAVA caloric guidelines. Recipes are mathematically scaled to each pet's daily calorie target — they are not generated by AI. Claude AI is used only to present and personalize the selected recipe template.

3. Subscription Plans & Billing

Free Plan: Manage up to 2 pets with core features at no charge.

Plus Plan ($2.99/month): Unlimited pets, advanced health tracking, AI recipe access, and priority support. Includes a 30-day free trial for new subscribers. No credit card required for trial.

Family Plan ($4.99/month): All Plus features plus multi-user access for up to 5 family members. Includes a 30-day free trial.

Paid subscriptions are billed monthly via Stripe. You may cancel at any time from your account settings; your subscription remains active until the end of the billing period. No refunds for partial months.

4. Nutrition & AI Disclaimer

The AI Assistant ("PetDex AI") and all nutrition content — including calorie calculators, recipe templates, and nutrient information — are provided for informational purposes only. They are not a substitute for professional veterinary advice, medical diagnosis, or treatment.

Calorie targets are calculated using the WSAVA RER formula with AAFCO-aligned life stage multipliers. Recipe templates are sourced from our AAFCO/USDA verified database and scaled to each pet's calorie target — they are AAFCO compliant templates, not AI-generated content. Individual pet nutritional needs vary. Always consult a licensed veterinarian or board-certified veterinary nutritionist before switching your pet to a homemade diet, especially if your pet has underlying health conditions, allergies, or is pregnant or nursing.

Supplement Notice: Whole food recipes alone may not meet 100% of AAFCO trace mineral requirements. MyPetDex recommends adding a vet-approved multivitamin supplement to all homemade meals to ensure nutritional completeness.

Toxicity Safeguards: MyPetDex maintains a hard-coded blocklist of ingredients toxic to dogs and cats per ASPCA guidelines. These ingredients cannot be selected or included in any recipe. However, users are responsible for verifying the safety of any additional ingredients not included in our platform.

5. User Content

You retain full ownership of all content (photos, records, notes) you upload. By uploading, you grant MyPetDex a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store and display that content solely to provide the service. We do not use your pet's data to train AI models or for advertising.

6. Prohibited Uses

You agree not to: (a) use the service for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to reverse engineer or gain unauthorized access to our systems; (c) upload harmful or misleading content; (d) resell or commercially exploit the service without written permission.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, accuracy of data, or fitness for a particular purpose.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MyPetDex shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including veterinary costs or pet health outcomes.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. Upon termination, your data will be deleted within 90 days.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notice at least 14 days before they take effect.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, USA.
